Portrait of Christ
Technique: oil on board;
Painting on wooden panel had very darkened yellowed varnish, overpainted background, long crack through the middle and missing piece of panel (ca 2 cm). Paint losses were mostly along edges. The lower part of the painting was slightly burned.
Surface was dry and wet cleaned. Varnish and overpainting were removed with solvents. The wooden insert was glued in. Losses to the paint layer were filled and textured and later in-painted with reversible conservation paints. Where it was possible text was reconstructed. New varnish was applied.
